Ein Trecker für Gabriele und Thomas / a traction engine for Gabriele and Thomas

Ich bekam eine Nachricht von meiner Dampf-Freundin Gabriele mit der Frage, ob ich ihr nicht eine D405 personalisieren könne. Ein guter Freund würde 60 und da er Trecker-Fan ist sollte eine grüne D405 mit entsprechender Beschriftung her. Das wäre dann ungefähr das, was Wilesco mal für den amerikanischen Markt gemacht hatte.

I got a message from my steam friend Gabriele asking if I could personalize a D405 for her. A good friend turns 60 and since he is a tractor fan, he should get a green D405 with the appropriate lettering. That would be roughly what Wilesco once did for the American market.

Als wir dann aber genauer erörtert haben, um welchen Trecker es in Realität geht, nahm die Sache eine ganz andere Richtung. Thomas (das Geburtstagskind) träumt seit langem von einem Deutz F2 514. Und der sieht natürlich ganz anders aus als eine grüne D405 mit ein paar gelben Linien. Also war klar, was zu tun ist: ein Dampf-betriebener Deutz muss her!

But when we discussed in more detail which tractor it is in reality, things took a completely different direction. Thomas (the birthday boy) has been dreaming of a Deutz F2 514 for a long time. And of course it looks very different from a green D405 with a few yellow lines. So it was clear what had to be done: a steam-powered Deutz was needed!

Also habe ich angefangen einen Dampf-Traktor entsprechend zu bauen. Angefangen mit dem Kesselhaus der D365, einem gekürzten Kessel und den Wilesco-Rädern kann man sich mit ganz viel Vorstellungskraft schon einen Trecker denken.

So I started to build a steam tractor accordingly. Starting with the boiler house of the D365, a shortened boiler and the Wilesco wheels, you can imagine a tractor with a lot of imagination.

An das Kesselhaus kam dann hinten die Antriebseinheit dran. Dass Aggregat der D365 kombiniert mit den Zahnrädern der D365. Nur das originale Schwungrad der D365 war optisch deutlich zu groß. Daher habe ich dieses durch das Schwungrad einer D48 ersetzt.

The drive unit was attached to the rear of the boiler house. The aggregate of the D365 combined with the gears of the D365. Only the original flywheel of the D365 was optically too big. So I replaced it with a D48 flywheel.

Um das Modell lenkbar zu gestalten, habe ich eine entsprechende Vorderachse mit Achsschenkel-Lenkung gebaut.

In order to make the model steerable, I built a corresponding front axle with steering knuckle.

Im Lastenheft stand auch, dass das Modell per Fernsteuerung lenkbar sein soll. Gesagt - getan. Der Servo wird seitlich vom Zylinder auf dem Hinterteil befestigt und bewegt dann den Lenkhebel.

The specifications also stated that the model should be able to be steered by remote control. Said and done. The servo is attached to the side of the cylinder on the rear part and then moves the steering arm.

So passt dann auch Alles in den Bauraum im hinteren Bereich. Die Akkus für den Betrieb von Empfänger und Servo finden in einer Aufnahme hinten am Trecker Platz. Diese wird am Ende als Trecker-typisches Betongewicht getarnt.

So everything fits into the space in the rear area. The batteries for operating the receiver and servo are accommodated in a mount at the rear of the tractor. At the end, this is camouflaged as a concrete weight typical of tractors.

Dann kam noch ein Abgasrohr hinzu und der erste Lack gibt dem Ganzen ein doch recht schickes Aussehen.

Then an exhaust pipe was added and the first paint gives the whole thing a pretty chic look.

Der hintere Bereich wurde dann entsprechend verkleidet. Es kam ein typischer Sitz hinzu und auch die Lenkstange hat ihren Platz gefunden. Natürlich ist diese über Zahnräder mit dem Lenkhebel verbunden, sodass sich das Lenkrad bei Lenkbewegungen entsprechend bewegt.

The rear area was then paneled accordingly. A typical seat was added and the steering rod has also found its place. Of course, this is connected to the steering lever via gears, so that the steering wheel moves accordingly when steering movements.

Am Heck gibt es dann noch den Kupplungshebel, mit dessen Hilfe der Gang eingelegt werden kann. So kann der Trecker auch im Leerlauf dampfen.

At the rear there is the clutch lever, which can be used to engage the gear. So the tractor can steam even when idling.

Das eigentliche Glanzstück des Treckers ist aber die Motorhaube. In der Form dem Original nachempfunden und für das Geburtstagskind entsprechend beschriftet: da wo sonst "luftgekühlt" steht ist nun "sechzig" zu lesen. Und statt "Deutz" steht nun "Thomas" auf der Front.

The real highlight of the tractor is the bonnet. The shape is based on the original and labeled accordingly for the birthday child: instead of "air-cooled" it now reads "sixty". And instead of "Deutz" it now says "Thomas" on the front.

Zusammen mit den selbst hergestellten Felgen ergibt sich dann doch ein ganz passendes Gesamtbild.

Together with the self-made rims, a very suitable overall picture emerges.

Gabriele hat dann noch eine tolle Verpackung drum herum gemacht. Und ich habe gehört, der Trecker war ein Highlight bei der Geburtstagsparty! Freut mich sehr!
