Für ein neues Diorama-Projekt brauchte ich eine etwas andere Dampfmaschine!
For my new Diorama-Project I needed a slightly different engine!
Für ein neues Diorama benötige ich eine sehr kompakte Dampfmaschine, welche eine möglichst kleine Grundfläche benötigt. Allerdings muss diese einen Generator und eine Laterne integriert haben. Und so bin ich darauf gekommen eine meiner D45 zu modifizieren. Ziel ist es, eine D45 zu bekommen, welche eine Beleuchtung ermöglicht, gleichzeitig möglichst realistisch aussieht und soweit möglich aus dem Wilesco-Baukasten realisiert wird.

For a new diorama I need a very compact steam engine, which requires the smallest possible footprint. However, this must have a generator and a lantern integrated. And so I came to modify one of my D45. The aim is to get a D45, which allows lighting, at the same time looks as realistic as possible and is based on Wilesco parts as far as possible.
Da in der D45 unterhalb des Aggregates ausreichend Platz ist, habe ich dort den Dynamo integriert. Außerdem wurde noch etwas Freiraum geschaffen, um den Fuß der Laterne verbauen zu können.

Since there is enough space in the D45 below the engine, I integrated the dynamo there. In addition, some space was created to block the foot of the Lantern.
Um den Dynamo vor zu viel Hitze zu schützen habe ich noch ein Schutzblech verbaut.

To protect the Dynamo from too much heat, I have installed a heat-shield.
Die Laterne wurde farblich an das neue Erscheinungsbild der Maschine angepasst. Zusätzlich habe ich den Lampenkopf noch etwas bearbeitet, um den "Plastik-Look" zu beheben.

The lantern was adapted in color to the new appearance of the machine. In addition, I have edited the lamp head a bit to fix the "plastic look".
Um den Druck jederzeit kontrollieren zu können, habe ich neben dem Kamin noch ein Manometer verbaut.

To be able to control the pressure at any time, I have integrated a pressure gauge next to the chimney.
Auch an den Dampfrohren hat sich einiges getan. Diese sind nun isoliert und der Abdampf wird in einen Kondensator geleitet. Dieser ist in den Kamin integriert und wirkt aufgrund der Temperatur eher wie ein Verdampfer.

Also on the steam pipes a lot has happened.
These are now insulated and the exhaust steam is passed into a condenser.
This is integrated into the chimney and works more like an evaporator due to the temperature.
Das übrig bleibende Kondensat wird dann seitlich an der Maschine abgeführt.
Für einen realistischeren Look habe ich den Zylinder mit Holz verkleidet. Gefällt mir im Gesamtbild besser, als das originale Blech. Außerdem wurden nahezu alle Bauteile in das Farbschema schwarz-grün eingepasst.

The remaining condensate is then guided on the side of the machine.
For a more realistic look I have covered the cylinder with wood.
I like the overall picture better than the original sheet metal.
In addition, almost all components were fitted in the color scheme black-green.
Der Kessel wurde schwarz lackiert und dann ebenfalls mit Holz verkleidet.
Insgesamt habe ich versucht die Maschine etwas dreckig und in Gebrauch aussehen zu lassen.

The boiler was painted black and then also covered with wood.
Overall, I tried to make the machine look a bit dirty and in use.
Die D45 hat zwar ein recht großes Wasservolumen, allerdings nur eine sehr kleine Oberfläche zum Heizen. Daher habe ich 5 Kupferrohre in den Kesselboden eingelötet, welche einerseits als Siederohre fungieren und andererseits über das Material Wärme bis hoch in den Kessel leiten.

Although the D45 has a rather large volume of water, but only a very small surface for heating.
Therefore, I soldered 5 copper pipes into the bottom of the boiler, which on the one hand act as boiling pipes and on the other hand conduct heat up to high in the boiler via the
material.
So ist eine stehende Maschine entstanden, welche sich doch recht deutlich vom Wilesco-Original unterscheidet. Und das nur mit Wilesco-Bauteilen, etwas Holz und etwas Farbe.

So a standing machine was created, which differs quite clearly from the Wilesco original.
And only with Wilesco components, some wood and a little paint.
Und in Funktion sieht das gute Stück dann so aus. Ein Video unter Dampf folgt dann zusammen mit dem kompletten Diorama.

Das mit den Siederohren ist schon eine tolle Idee. Problem ist vermutlich, den Kessel wieder (druck)dicht zu bekommen.
Bin schon fasziniert, wie toll der Umbau gelungen ist.
